Top 5 Foods to Avoid

Monday, September 19th, 2011

This is a guest post from I friend I met at Brendon Burchard’s experts Academy.  This is great info if you are pursuing a healthier diet or if you are looking to increase your energy and vitality.  i look forward to your comments below.
1. Trans Fats, Partially Hydrogenated and Hydrogenated Oils

Scan your food labels for them and avoid them like the plague.

These types of fats/oils are associated with considerable weight gain,
inflammation, and plaque formation inside your blood vessels (which can lead to
heart attack and stroke).

They are generally found in margarine, shortening, pastries, doughnuts,
muffins, biscuits, cookies, cakes, frostings, pies, crackers, chips,
bread, instant flavored coffee drinks, microwave popcorn,
and the usual fast food suspects like fried chicken, chicken patty
sandwiches, French fries, etc. Anything fried should be viewed
with suspicion.

2. Sugar

These days it seems like sugar is hidden in everything!  Even
something as benign-sounding as fruit juice or a smoothie can
be loaded with sugar.

Sugar has several chemical names making it even harder to identify;
anything that ends in -ose is suspect, such as High Fructose
Corn Syrup or Sucrose.

There are a litany of severe problems associated with sugar.
It stimulates a major stress-response in the body and leads
to chronically high levels of cortisol in the blood.  High cortisol
levels have been linked to several types of disease.

Additionally, sugar effectively disables your immune system
by disrupting the function of your white blood cells.  Sugar also
disrupts appetite regulation and can trick you into eating more even
when you’re not hungry.

Sugar promotes fat storage, weight gain, severe systemic
inflammation, and is the primary driver behind the development
of Type 2 Diabetes, Heart Disease, and Obesity.

P.S. Alcohol metabolizes down to Glucose (i.e. sugar) in the body.
So the more you can limit alcohol consumption, the better.  It has
also been shown that alcohol consumption slows down metabolism
by up to 73%.  Not something you want if you’re trying to lose weight.

3. Corn oil, Vegetable oil, Cottonseed oil, Safflower oil,
Sunflower oil, and Soybean oil

The above mentioned oils are all insanely high in Omega-6 polyunsaturated
fat, which skews our natural dietary ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 far too
much in favor of the Omega-6 side of the equation.  An Omega-6-heavy
diet has been shown to increase weight gain and lead to plaque formation
in blood vessels.

Choose healthier fats such as Olive oil, Coconut oil, Avocado oil,
Macadamia nut oil, Palm oil, Fish oil, Krill oil, pure beef lard,
grass-fed butter, or clarified butter known as Ghee.  These options are
lower in Omega-6 fatty acids and contain a much healthier variety of fat
known as monounsaturated fat.

When choosing animal-based fats, try to select grass-fed products
when available, as grass-fed fats contain high levels of conjugated
linoleic acids (CLAs), that have been proven effective in fighting
several types of cancers.

4. Processed Foods

Processed foods are simply a repository for many of the
above-mentioned ingredients, like sugar, hydrogenated oils, trans fats,
and commercial seed oils, containing very high levels of Omega-6
fatty acids.  Which means they can easily lead to quick weight gain.

Processed foods are also known to be very high in sodium.
Sodium is a necessary mineral for proper cellular function,
however, more than about 2-3 grams per day can be problematic
and play a role in the development of high blood pressure,
which can lead to things like kidney failure, heart attack and stroke.

Lastly, processed foods are a great example of high-calorie,
low-nutrition foods.  Calorie for calorie, you’ll get way more bang
for your buck by eating fresh or frozen whole vegetables, meats,
seafood, poultry, nuts, eggs or fruit.

5. Grains – whole, multi-, or otherwise

Unless you take the time to ferment or sprout your own whole grains,
I would avoid grains and grain-based products all together.

Grains are full of anti-nutrients that block the absorption of essential
minerals (unless sprouted or fermented) such as zinc, selenium,
magnesium, and calcium, and they contain a wide array of toxins
(intended to protect themselves against predators) that wreak havoc
on our digestive, endocrine, vascular and immune systems.

Grains and grain-based products are also full of carbohydrates,
which tend to stall weight loss or even increase weight gain.
Vegetable-based fiber (instead of grain-based fiber) is
a far more effective route for weight loss, without all of the toxins
and anti-nutrients.

Building Passive Income, key to financial success–here is your chance

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Do you want the key to financial success?

Quit trading time for money.  All of my financially independent clients have one thing in common, they have systems in place that earn income, even when they are not spending time on generating that income.  For some it is owning a business that they do not work in, some have rental properties and for others, it is internet sales of their products.  The bottom line is their financial freedom came from passive income streams.

All successful coaches, speakers and authors know that product creation is the key to help spread their message and…(wait for it)…financial independence.

So as I have been making plans toward product creation I was directed toward a course, Total Product Blueprint.  Total Product Blueprint is from Brendon Burchard (Life’s Golden Ticket, Expert Academy, The Millionaire Messenger).  No one in the industry has had the growth curve and broad success across multiple niches and programs as Brendon.  He has a lot of perspective to share and his new course teaches you TACTICALLY how to CREATE information products and programs, AND how to MARKET them strategically and effectively to generate recurring revenue while building an enduring expert/guru brand.

He started with 3 free videos that were chalked full of content. His course provides sample outlines, scripts, examples, and marketing emails and sample web pages.  It seemed like a great investment for someone like me – someone ready to create a passive income from products that help spread my message.

As always, when I learn something great, I share it.  I wanted to share this opportunity with you.  So here it is.  Total Product Blueprint .  Now this links to my affiliate site, but here is the great thing, if you decide that this program is a good fit for you, and you are ready to create a passive income, AND you buy through my affiliate link, I am giving you, my loyal reader, 3 free months of customized coaching.

You know that I am focused on implementation.  There is so much information out there, but I am more interested in programs that help me to implement that information to help me and my clients reach their goals.  Are you ready to invest in a program that will help you implement a system of product creation?  Me too.  That is why I have bought Brendon’s program.  I want to help you with the accountability part.  I am throwing in 3 months of my basic coaching package ($750 value).  On top of that Brendon is giving you 12 months access and his own coaching.  We are both committed to your success!

So if you decide to join me on this awesome adventure, let’s make some money together!

First, close any instances of TPB.  Then clear your browser history.  Clear your cookies and cache.  This ensures that when you click on my affiliate link, you will show as one of my customers and get credit for three months of coaching.  https://burchardgroup.infusionsoft.com/go/tpblive/Colorado .

After you play the video (it will take a little bit) there will be an “add to cart” button that appears.  After your purchase post a comment below to get your link for your free coaching.  I look forward to working with you.

Your Beliefs Create Your Results

Monday, May 2nd, 2011
The roots create the fruits.

That which you sow, you will grow.

sproutA seed grows a complete root system before it ever breaks through the soil surface. Now if you planted bean seeds when you really wanted an apple tree and apples, then you will experience a very different result than what you expected. The results in your life and business are like harvests we just spoke of. Your results can be traced back to your seed thoughts.  These original seed thoughts grew deep roots long before you became who you are now. They formed your beliefs about life and business. Your beliefs are rooted to your thoughts, which shaped your feelings that branched into behaviors. Your behaviors formed habits. Your habits ultimately created results. Your results created your life. Any struggles you have in your life are just a result.  Any dissatisfaction you are encountering is just a reflection of your roots.

Too often when we try to change the fruits (results) in our life, we prune our tree and provide fresh fertilizer and water. And what happens? We get more of the same fruit that we didn’t want. Why? Because the roots(beliefs) produce the fruits. If you want to know what your roots(beliefs) are, observe your fruits—observe the results you are getting. In order to succeed you must reprogram your mind for success. If you are committed to getting new results, it is critical to begin with changing your beliefs.  In this world everything works from the inside out, the roots produce the fruits.

Skills for Success: 11 tips to becoming a better listener

Saturday, November 27th, 2010

Being an effective listener is one of the most important life skills you can master in order to advance your career, build a successful business and build meaningful relationships. Most people believe they are good listeners because they have been doing it their entire life, but mastering the skills of listening is about changing how you listen.  When you REALLY listen, you demonstrate your interest in what is being said and you show your respect for the individual saying it. Listening is a magnetic force that draws people to us.  Skillful listeners are confident in themselves and provide value to the conversation by the interaction, not by what they have to say.Have you ever talked to someone and noticed they were not really listening to you? How did it make you feel? Disrespected? Unimportant?  Use that feedback and work hard to ensure that people never feel the same way when they talk with you. Challenge yourself to master the art of listening. In this article I will highlight 11 things I have learned and observed throughout my life and career.  A masterful listener forms an instant bond with others and that immediate connection is created through genuine and sincere interest in others. It all starts with him being a good listener.

1. Start the Conversation

I am astounded at the people that wait for someone else to strike up a conversation. To be an active listener you must first engage someone in a conversation. Walk up to someone and introduce yourself. Begin the conversation. Another effective way is to insert yourself into a discussion that is already going.  Begin by listening.

2. Ask Questions

The easiest way to start a conversation is to ask questions.  The easiest was to keep a conversation going is to respond with questions. When you ask people questions during a conversation, you show a sincere interest in the topic. A powerful way is to ask how they FEEL about the subject they have raised. Most people operate at a feeling level, rather than a thinking level, even if they are logical thinkers.

3. Make Eye Contact

An essential step in being a good listener is to make eye contact with people while they are talking. Good eye contact demonstrates genuine interest in the person and the conversation. Please recognize this is not to be intense staring, but rather appropriate eye contact and appropriately looking away at times. try not to make it appear intentional, but rather sincere.

4. Use Open Body Language

Using body language and eye contact the right way can really have a positive impact on the speaker. To show you are listening and interested, lean slightly forward in your chair. Not so much that your elbows are on your knees, but enough so you aren’t reclined back on your chair. Be sure your arms are uncrossed. If standing, stand slightly at an angle to the speaker, not facing straight forward.

5. Be Present

I must admit I have been accused at times by my wife of not being present when she is talking even though I am looking into her eyes. At these times my mind is off thinking about something other than what she is talking about. Be aware of your thoughts.  If you find yourself not present for a second or momentarily distracted apologize and ask them to repeat what they said or tell them you do not follow what they are saying.

6. Show NO Sign You are Ready to Respond

When you are actively listening, don’t give any clues that you are preparing to respond. Don’t point your finger, open your mouth, take a deep breath or change your facial expression as an indicator that you are ready to talk. When I talk to people and I see that they are anxiously waiting to respond, I know they are no longer listening because they are now concerned with crafting their response than with listening to what I am saying.

7. Pause Before Your Response

During a conversation, wait a few seconds after the person finishes speaking to allow them to finish their thought and get prepared to listen to you. This is a critical skill when talking on the phone, because you cannot see their facial expression. Often times, they are just pausing to gather their thoughts or take a breath and have not completed their entire thought. If you find yourself talking at the same time as someone else is talking, then use that opportunity to remind yourself of the importance of a pause.  Often the most important information from a conversation comes after the pause.

8. Let Them Go First

If you start talking at the same time someone else is trying to finish their thought, STOP- say, “I’m sorry, please continue” and let them finish before responding. Even if what you have to say is an answer to the question they raised or is important, show them your respect by letting them finish, first.

9. Listen For The Unstated Message

Are you able to pick up on a person’s message that lies beneath their words. By listening intently, you will grasp the topic and move more effectively into the conversation. Most people are looking for encouragement, answers or insights to the subjects they discuss. By listening deeply and connecting with the other person, you will communicate more effectively.

10. Don’t Change The Subject

When engaged in a conversation, don’t change the subject until the discussion is completed. I observe people who do this all the time in small group settings, business networking and social situations. If you change the subject prematurely, you exhibit a lack of interest in the discussion (and the people) and indicate that what you have to say is of higher importance.

11. Save the Side Conversation

When you are part of a group conversation, never start a side conversation, even if the person talking is not making eye contact with you.  If you find yourself bored with the conversation try harder to connect with the speaker. Your boredom is merely a symptom of your disconnection. At first appearance these tips seem so natural and common place.  It would seem that these are easy to implement. But doing it consistently is the hard part. Being a good listener requires an intentional effort and above all, a sincere interest in other people. It is a skill worthy of mastering.  Listening is a skill that garners respect and respected people are successful.I am committed to working on being a better listener. Will you commit to showing you care about people by incorporating these eleven tips into your daily routine? On a scale of 1-10, what’s your commitment?
